There are 4 types of Reading Matching Questions listed below.

1. Name Matching

For name matching questions, you need to match the list of people's names with the list of statements mentioned in the question, from the  given text.

Strategy

  • Carefully read the instructions.
  • Do those Name first who appear only once in the text. 
  • Repeat this process until of the last names.

2. Headings Matching

For Heading matching questions, you need to match list of Headings with the list of sections mentioned in the question, from the  given text.

Strategy

  • Carefully read the instructions.
  • Read text first, then headings
  • Repeat this process until of the last names.

3. Paragraph Information Matching

Note:  This type of question that comes up regularly in the IELTS Reading test.

For Paragraph matching questions, you need to match list of Statements mentioned in the question with the list of Paragraph, from the  given text.

Strategy

  • Carefully read the instructions.
  • Read the statements before you read the given text. 
  • During reading statements if found names, numbers, places and dates do quick start from here because that will be easy to scan.
  • Repeat this process until matched all the statements to paragraphs.

4. Sentence Endings Matching

Note:  This type of question that  don’t come up as often as some other types of IELTS Reading questions.

For name matching questions, you need to match the  list of possible sentence endings  with the  list of incomplete sentences  mentioned in the question, from the  given text.

Strategy

  • Carefully read the instructions.
  • Do those Name first who appear only once in the text. 
  • Repeat this process until of the last names.
